Teacher Lori Trout and her fourth graders had an idea. "After our commemorative study of the events of September 11, 2001, the students in my classroom wanted to find a way to make the world a bit better," writes Mrs. Trout. From their classroom study of Operation Migration's work in trying to bring whooping cranes back from near extinction, the students knew the venture was in great need of money to carry out this year's migration. "We realized that what we could fundraise as a class, or even a school, would be a very small portion. Who could we ask? As names like Bill Gates and Oprah floated about, oil company profits became a focus. When we looked up oil company profits, it became an easy choice: ExxonMobil." Students wrote persuasive letters. They learned how to make paper cranes. They created a migration chain of paper cranes and letters to send to ExxonMobil in care of CEO Rex Tillerson. And did the effort stop with their classroom? No. It spread through the school.

The students at Kennedy Montessori invite YOU to join their efforts. Would you like to add your voice to a cause you believe in? Write a letter to Mr. Tillerson at ExonMobil (or to someone else you think could help). Ask them to donate fuel or money to support Operation Migration. Tell them why it matters. You can help make a difference! Send your letter to:

Mr. Rex W. Tillerson, CEO
