How do cranes use their red crowns? |
Photo Eva Szyszkoski, International Crane Foundation |
This is a close look at crane #105's red crown. Every adult Whooping crane has a red crown by the time it is a year old. The crown is actually a bald patch (no feathers). A crane can change the color from pale to blazing red. How could this be useful? |
