What is this crane doing?
By Sara, ICF Aviculturalist

He's getting a drink of water! The young cranes drink from a water guzzler while they're in the release pen at Chass or St. Marks. Every day we clean out the guzzler because, as you can see, it gets dirty when the birds stick their muddy beaks in it!

The guzzler has a float in it.
As the birds drink, the float goes down — which triggers more water to flow in,
refilling the bowl of the guzzler and lifting the float back up. When the float rises to a certain point, the water flow stops.
