2006 Summary: First successfully fledged chick in the eastern migratory population. Five nests built, but all five nests failed. One pair renested and hatched two chicks. One of the chicks, #W1-06 (W601), survived to fledging.

This pair produced the first egg ever laid by reintroduced Whooping cranes in the eastern migratory flock! Nest failed April 16.

Nest 1: April 7.

Nest 2: May 23

Nest 1 failed April 20.

Nest 2: Twin chicks (W-1 and W-2) hatched June 22! The second chick was not seen after September 12, but the other chick survived. See The First Family.

#213 and #218 April 6 Nest failed April 24. Two eggs rescued and hatched in captivity to become the new Eastern flock's first eggs to hatch into chicks! They were in the ultralight-led Class of 2006!
#203 and #317 April 7 Nest failed; eggs lost to a predator April 15 or 16
#209 and #302 April 13 Nest failed April 28.
