When
young #735 could not fly due to wing trouble, help was needed.
I talked with world-class crane doctors Dr. Scott Terrel (our
vet at Disney World), and Dr. Barry Hartup (ICF's vet). We
decided to give #735 an anti-inflammatory medication for several
days.
How would you get medicine into a Whooping Crane? I put the pill
or capsules inside grapes and then hope she swallows the whole
grape and gets the medicine.
This is not easy! The birds all love grapes. To get them away from
#735, I have to try and distract the 16 others with non- medicated
grapes.
