The egg goes into an electric incubator until it can be transferred to one of the captive breeding sites (Patuxent, ICF, or Calgary Zoo). The eggs are usually flown out the day after collection. After reaching the captive site they are again weighed and tested to see if the embryo is still alive. Then they are put in a more sophisticated incubator until hatching. Every egg is precious and valuable for the whooper it could produce.
