The older birds usually spread out in nearby Florida counties, or even nearby states. But sometimes they come back to get free food! The older cranes may fight with the chicks, or try to drive them away. It's best if only the chicks are at the pen site. The growing flock is a reason why St. Marks NWR became a second winter home in 2009.
