Weather Challenge
"I was thinking about the 2 birds we trapped today, and the weather," wrote eagle biologist Peter Nye. "Good study question for students: See if you can come up with a reason why eagles might have been 'feeding up' on 1 February. I have some opinions on this from years of trapping, but it certainly could be more scientifically investigated and described!

1. Both eagles were captured in New York. Each date links to a weather map for 6 pm that day. (The map for February 2 shows conditions at 6 am.) On this chart, record the weather conditions in NY leading up to Peter Nye's capture.
2. Why might the weather make eagles eager to eat--and easier to capture--on Feb. 1, 1999? What's your theory--and why?
