Survival in a Wild Habitat Looking at Eaglets   Here's what's happening, and why: FEATHERS Look at the funky head feathers! These thick feathers grew in very quickly on the baby eagle when it was first hatched, because the head loses body heat faster than the rest of the body. Those long white feathers will be pushed out by the more mature feathers growing in. Journaling Questions Compare the habitat where eagles grow up with the habitat where humans grow up.
