Survival in a Wild Habitat
Looking at Eaglets

  Here's what's happening, and why:

FEATHERS

Look at the funky head feathers!

  • These thick feathers grew in very quickly on the baby eagle when it was first hatched, because the head loses body heat faster than the rest of the body.
  • Those long white feathers will be pushed out by the more mature feathers growing in.

Journaling Questions
  • Compare the habitat where eagles grow up with the habitat where humans grow up.
  • Compare human infants' heads with eaglets' heads. Think of 3 ways they are the same or different.
