About Observation Post #12
Depoe Bay, Oregon, United States

The Oregon Parks & Recreation Department's Whale Watching Center counts passing whales. On the journey north in spring, the peak northbound migration of adults and juveniles is in March. Mothers and calves usually pass Oregon and Washington from late April through June, several weeks after the males and juvenile females without babies. About 400 gray whales do not go as far north as Alaska to feed in the summer; they feed along coasts of Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, and you can see whales feeding close to shore from July through mid November. November and December bring the first whales migrating south.
