Hummers—One at a Time
How
to Report
If you see a hummingbird with green color-marking on its upper breast or throat,
it is very important that you report it as quickly as possible to someone at
Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History.
You
can send your report via e-mail or
you can call (803) 684-5852.
Where
Might You See Green-Marked Hummingbirds?
Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds are color-marked all season long, so you may see them north,
west, or east of York SC in spring, and anywhere south or west of York
in autumn. If the bird is spotted near the Center, Bill Hilton, Jr. may
try to visit your location and recapture the bird; if you live in a distant
state, he will contact a bander there to see if he/she can investigate.
Reporting
Your Sighting is Important!
Since
we have so few data points about hummingbird migration, any sighting
you make is potentially important, especially if it leads to the bird's
recapture so the band number can be read.
