When Will The Rufies Reach Wrangle?
Alaskan Students Wonder

Kindergarten and first graders at Evergreen Elementary School way up in Wrangle, Alaska, are waiting for their first Rufous hummer to arrive. Here's what they shared with us so far!

Dear Friends,

Winter has still got a grip on us, although the tulips and songbirds are trying to remind us otherwise. (March 31)

We hung our classroom feeder up on Friday at a balmy 50 degrees. Notice the snow burm in the background and total absence of leaves on the trees! (April 17)

We are located in Southeast Alaska at 56N latitude.

What do you think?
  • When do you think these students might spot their first Rufous hummingbird?
  • What questions do you have for them?

Stay tuned. We'll report on what happens in Wrangle in a future update!
