Poor Man's Fertilizer
The fresh blanket of snow that fell in New England this week might be called a "poor man's fertilizer," according to an old wive's tale. Actually, there is some truth to this tale. Snow contains nitrogen and other elements that were suspended in the air. Because a spring snow often falls on thawed soil, its moisture and nutrients percolate slowly into the soil as the snow melts.

"With daytime temps well above freezing last week, it was just enough warmth to help get most of our tulips to emerge on 4/6/15. However, we received an inch or two of snow last night and today, April 9th. Old Man Winter is holding on tightly here in southern New Hampshire." 04/06/15 Salem, New Hampshire
