Principles of ecology and techniques for field studies of monarch
butterflies will be presented for in-depth scientific inquiry. Teacher/student/naturalist
teams will learn to:
· increase the use of public parks, natural areas, and schoolyards
as outdoor laboratories for active scientific inquiry,
· make public parks, natural areas, and schoolyards more accessible
as outdoor classrooms to teachers and students ,
· increase public awareness of conservation issues leading
to protection and preservation of wildlife and natural areas, and
· use technology resources to form networks (Journey North,
Monarch Larval Monitoring Project, MonarchWatch) between the scientific
and educational communities and to communicate scientific data, especially
related to monarch migration.
