A Divided Forest

Cerro Pelon straddles two states, Michoacan and Mexico. The state line can be seen on this image. Note the thicker forest cover on the right side (Mexico) than the left side (Michoacan).  The State of Mexico side has had full-time paid protection for decades - since the overwintering monarchs were discovered - while Michoacan has not.
