Joe Shorthouse is a retired entomology professor who spends his summers on Manitoulin Island in northern Lake Huron. He is coordinating a project monitoring monarchs on islands in the Great Lakes — with a focus on Manitoulin Island, Ontario — for the Great Lakes Islands Alliance. Joe’s wife Marilyn, a retired public health nurse, enjoys studying natural history on Manitoulin Island and searching for monarchs.
