Gradual Departure from El Rosario

Unlike the massive departure from Sierra Chincua, the guides at El Rosario assure me that the butterflies were still there as of 8 pm this evening.

Dear Friends,
Here at our school in Benica, California we can watch a hummingbird from our classroom windows. We have a hand signal we use if we spot it during our lessons. We think it's an Anna's hummingbird. We don't have a feeder, it's just a large planter box filled with salvia. We are happy to have the chance to watch the hummingbird almost every day!

Dear Friends:
Hello from the monarch’s winter home in Michoacán, Mexico!
February is here and tourist season is reaching its peak. Join me as I visit El Rosario Sanctuary.
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
Patricia Nethercote is waiting for your hummingbirds! She writes to you from her home in Costa Rica, a busy habitat at the far end of the wintering range for hummingbirds.
Dear Journey North,
Welcome to Bagaces, Guanacaste, Costa Rica!
Monarch migration can be invisible to us when we watch from the ground. There is a large gap overhead where monarchs can travel and we can't see them. Journey North tracks migration based on visual observations, so questions about the height of flight are important: How high do monarchs fly - and how high can we see them?
