Barn
Swallow Migration
Did you know
that a Barn Swallow might fly 600 miles in a single day, in order to capture
enough insects to eat? For swallows, long-distance migration is a lot
like a typical day — except that they travel in a straight line
instead of in circles!
1) Eight
swallows species live in North America. Take a look at a Field Guide
to the Birds of North America and find out which species will be coming
your way this spring.
2) While you're waiting for the swallows, enjoy these fun
facts about swallows.
3) Keep your eyes on the skies and report the FIRST Barn swallows of
spring to arrive in your region! (If you live in the southern U.S. or
Mexico, where some swallows spend the winter, please report your barn
swallows NOW.)
