Stocky for a hummingbird, the Anna’s definitely leaves an impression with its appearance and behavior. The male’s iridescent gorget feathers extend from his neck up and around his head, and his courtship dives from over 100’ high are not to be missed. And females have some color spotting on the gorget too. The Anna’s are one species that doesn’t migrate far, they just travel short distances to find food sources throughout the year. Their range has expanded over the years up the Coast from California to the Alaskan Panhandle. Copyrighted Photo: Laura Erickson
