August: Breeding Season Coming To An End
Enjoy the end of summer while preparing for the fall migration.
August: A Pivotal Month
August always seems to be bittersweet as it marks the end of the breeding season and the beginning of fall migration. For the American Robin, the job of breeding and raising young has almost ended. Juvenile robins are independent now — or almost. They watch how and what other birds eat as new food sources continue to ripen.
For migrating American Robins, they will soon start forming flocks with other robins, young and old. Adults will molt and their new feathers will withstand the rigors of fall migration and winter wandering.
