Why would owls makes nests in the cold of February?

Our class thought there might be two big advantages to laying eggs
early: One, when the babies hatch, since no other baby birds are
hatching so early, there would be more available food for the parent to
get just for their baby owls. Secondly, perhaps the predators on owl
eggs and owl chicks are hibernating, have migrated or are less active in
    the winter.
