Next message: Iselin Middle School: "challenge question # 2"
How can owls leave their eggs in the cold of February?
Our class thought that that there were probably two parts ot this
answer. One: Owls line their nests with insulating downy feathers so
the eggs are in a very warm place and two, the body temperature of the
sitting parent owl helps to warm up the eggs long enough so that the
parent can make a quick trip away from the nest. They didn't know how
long a time would be safe before the eggs would freeze, but agreed there
might be some "window of opportunity" where the parent could take off
for a short bit.
