Costa's Hummingbird
The Costa's most distinguishing feature is its vibrant purple cap and purple throat feathers that flare out and back behind its head. Costa's are named for the French nobleman, Louis Marie Pantaleon Costa, the Marquis de Beauregard who lived from 1806 to 1864.

"This little guy, a male Costa's, has been around for some time but I managed to get this picture the other day and wanted to share it. I believe he has a little growing to do since his head is not all purple, but he's still beautiful."
