Highlights: Steady to the North
The migration is advancing steadily. You can draw a line across the eastern half of the continent at 41°N and see the Ruby-throat leading edge. Watch for change — last week's unseasonably cold and rainy weather north of this line is forecast to warm up later in the week.

"A single healthy male. Weather has been chilly and insects are not plentiful, yet."

"After much anticipation, we saw our first hummer today at 11:20 a.m. A male showed up fighting the high winds."
04/27/15 Derby, Kansas

Between trips to flowers and feeders hummingbirds need safe perches to rest and sleep.

"A male came to my nectar feeder to perch and drink. He did not fly north afterwards; instead, he flew into my arborvitaes and settled there."
04/26/15 Reading, Pennsylvania

Rufous in Montana
Rufous migration moved into Montana with a cluster of sightings from Kalispell north to East Glacier Park.

"Heard them 5 days ago but didn't see till this morning." 04/27/15 Whitefish Lake, Montana

Western Species Highlights
Broad-tailed hummers were reported in multiple locations in Colorado, including at 7,233 feet in Vail Valley this week. Calliopes continue to reach feeders in Montana and Washington.

Spotlight: No Red Dye
Everybody loves hummingbirds, so the last thing we want to do is to harm them. Do not use red-dye solution or add red food coloring in your hummingbird feeders. Journal page
