Hummingbirds need a safe place to perch. A perch on a high branch or wire gives a wide view for guarding territory or a spot for taking a break from nesting duties. It offers a place to rest, sun, and preen. Provide a perch in your yard. Avoid pruning away every dead branch, particularly branches or twigs that extend away from the main growth of the plant. No natural perches? Try wiring small twigs or stringing clothesline near your flowers and feeders to offer a variety of perching locations.
