Welcome! Meet Eagle Biologist Peter Nye | |||||
"Greetings Journey North Kids—and Welcome to Eagle Tracking 2007! It's hard to believe another year has sped by so fast, but it is great to be back..." begins Peter Nye. Peter Nye is an endangered species expert. He tracks bald eagles by satellite as they come and go through New York State. He also tracks those that stay in New York for a lifetime. Nye is sharing his research with us for the 13th year! This is the basic question behind his work: What habitat do the eagles need? "I think it is going to be a busy and exciting year, so fasten your seat belts and get ready to do some thinking!" says Nye.

"We will start by tracking four adult, female bald eagles. These birds were all captured along the Upper Delaware River in southeast New York," says Nye. What do our four eagles have in common? We know one thing: they all needed the Upper Delaware River habitat at least once. We know, because all four eagles were captured there! Find out when each was captured. Where did they go next and what habitat did they need? Let's explore!
