Eagle Migration: Map, Data, and Questions
  • This week's migration map >>
  • Data for your own classroom map >>
  • Questions about this week's map (handout) >>
Highlights:
Glancing at today’s we see a couple of things clearly: first, the birds have really spread across the NE quadrant of the map. Second, one eagle clearly has found her nesting tree. U25 is on a dead straight-away path to her nest tree in Newfoundland. When will she reach her destination? U21 appears to be stalled for now on the NE shore of Lake Superior.
Explore: Putting Eagles On the Map

Just like the forces that send our eagles migrating northward, we have some eagles that are eager for you to put them on the map.

Do you see where the eagles are this week? Find their locations on today's map. Then use your mouse like a magic wand. Drag the eagles onto the map and show what you know! >>

  • Where did each eagle start out?
  • Where are they now?
  • Where do you think they will spend the summer nesting?

Your mouse becomes a magic wand to move these eagles across the map! >>
Journal Questions: Nest Phenology
Read & Share >>

Eagles will soon be doing the serious work of raising another generation. Although it's not written down anywhere, male and female eagles know exactly what their duties are when it comes to raising young. What do females do? What do males do? Are there jobs they BOTH do? We'll help you learn more about nesting. >>
Team up with your classmates to read then teach each other! Take notes in your journals.

"The one common denominator just about all eagle nests have in common, is the view: the view from an eagle's nest is one of the most spectacular on earth - they certainly know how to pick the prime lookout spots."
