News: Winter Hummingbird Sightings
While we wait for the start of the spring migration, watch the maps for sightings reported during this in-between season. All winter sightings are included on the maps, but here are a few selections:

02/04/13 Brentwood, Tennessee
I have had the good fortune of observing a ruby-throated hummingbird that chose to stay for the winter in Brentwood, TN. Of course, my delight is constantly tempered with my worry! I realized this little guy was hanging around in late October...(more)

01/19/13 Charlotte, North Carolina
Our ruby throat showed up about 7:40 am this morning - about 26 degrees outside. She's visited the feeder several times since then even though it is still below freezing.

02/02/13 Lafayette, Louisiana
Just spotted a rufous at the feeder I keep out all winter. Appears to be an immature male. Bronze head and back with green on wings.

01/31/13 Houston, Texas
Young male Rufous still here. I took a photo of him bathing three days ago while it was warmer. He bathes at 7 in the morning even when it's in the upper thirties.
