Rufous Move into Alberta
Rufous now being observed in Alberta as migration progresses toward their eastern edge. In Alaska one witness observed a male in courtship display.

Ruby-Throats Push Further into Canada
Ruby-throats have pushed northwest into Sasketchewan and Alberta. They've also been spotted in the northern reaches of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and along the north shorelines of the Great Lakes.

"Spotted one male and one female, possibly two females. Nesting in a thicket of wild roses and other shrubs behind my fence."

Western Species Highlights
Many hummingbird species are sighted in Western states and Provinces, but often they are only passing through on their way to higher ground.

"Black-chinned male at our feeder this morning. We consider ourselves cafe-on-the-way to the mountains for many species. We have only half a dozen pairs stay all summer, but dozens during migrations."
