News: Reports in from the North
Numerous reports of rubythroat sightings came in this week from the northern reaches of their breeding grounds.

Rubythroats in the North
For many in the northern reaches of the rubythroat range first sightings were delayed this spring.

"Hummingbirds arrived late this year no doubt due to the very cold spring, the ice came off the lake only a week ago."
Longbow Lake, Ontario   05/21/14

Rufous
Both male and female rufous are now being observed in parts of the Canadian Rockies.

"One male and two females at the feeder today." Rocky Mountain House, Alberta 05/19/14

Western Species Highlights
Because several hummingbird species are found in western states and provinces there can be more than one species to observe.

"Even though the tiny rufous hummers are very feisty, the Anna's are maintaining their territory." Bellingham, Washington  05/24/14
