How Can I Prepare Students for Mystery Class?

Build-a-Booklist and Learning Center
The activities in the Build-a-Booklist Teacher's Guide engage students in the process of building a kid-tested, teacher-approved booklist for your classroom learning center.

Students hunt and gather books about sunlight and seasonal change. They read and write reviews using the book review template. They sort and share the titles they reviewed. For example:

  • Which books would you recommend to readers who want facts about why there is seasonal change?
  • Which books describe the equinox and solstice in the most interesting way?
  • Which books provide details about earth's orbit around the sun?

About Mystery Class

Mystery Class is a global game of hide-and-seek where students follow the sun to locate ten top-secret sites "hidden" around the world. Using sunrise and sunset times, students try to find out where in the world each mystery class is located. As they search for the sites, students also discover the reasons for seasons. Mystery Class 2011 begins on January, 31st.

Watch for monthly "Countdown to Mystery Class" messages to help you get ready for the spring 2011 season.

The Next Countdown to Mystery Class will be posted November 30th.
