News: Monarchs in Mid-February
The monarchs are in the final weeks of their stay in Mexico. The first will begin migration in early March. By the spring Equinox, the butterflies will be vacating the sanctuaries en masse.

Early signs of colony break-up are typically seen now. The dense clusters of the cold winter months give way to loose clusters, as the colony begins its spring expansion. Increasingly, butterflies go out during the day in search of water and no longer return to tight clusters.
