First Shipment Symbolic Butterflies Arrive at Sanctuaries |
The
first group of symbolic butterflies has arrived in the sanctuaries!
We sent 193 pounds of butterflies off on 11/14/08. They arrived
in Angangueo, Michoacan, on 11/19/08. This is the fastest
UPS shipment we can remember!
The
second group left headquarters headed for the monarch sanctuaries
11/25/08. When will they reach Angangueo? |

Elizabeth
Howard is just back from making arrangements with schools
in the sanctuary region to find homes for your symbolic butterflies.She
met with teachers of several of the 100 classrooms where your
butterflies will spend the winter months. The monarchs were
arriving at the time. "Whenever
I looked up at the sky I could see them floating, soaring,
overhead..."

Meet
German Medina and Estela
Romero. Both German and Estela live in Angangueo,
Michoacan, very near the monarch sanctuaries.
German is responsible for visiting all the
schools to share the butterflies and booklets you sent this
fall. Estela is fluent in English and helps
with all the translations between Journey North and Mexico.

Butterfly Sanctuary Fund Contributions |
This
fall we learned about Travis, and "Pennies for Monarchs."
In less than 1 month's time, Travis, a 7-year old from Harford Homeschool,
gathered $10 of pennies for monarch education and conservation.
Second and third grade students in Selinsgrove, PA raised a whopping
$129.03 this fall for Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary Foundation!
