Here are some points
to consider including in your letter. You may:
- Thank
the President of Mexico for his support and concern about the people
of the monarch butterfly region.
- Express
your hope that, with the President's leadership, this disaster presents
an opportunity for rebuilding an even stronger community for our friends
in the region.
- Explain
that you want to demonstrate your concern and commitment to friendship
and partnership. "Nos
importa estamos afligidos." (We care and are concerned.)
- Speak
for thousands of children.
Every year since 1997, over 50,000 children in Canada and the United
States have exchanged symbolic monarch butterflies with the children
in Anganguo and the surrounding communities, precisely the area that
was devastated by the floods.
- Share
the fact that we learning from one another. We are building relationships
and understanding. We are learning how to conserve our shared resources.
- Say that
you don't want this natural disaster to interrupt the flow of education
and community.
- Let the
President know that you share his belief that the monarch region is
a world treasure, of world heritage status.
Include
a Picture!
You can send a copy of the Mexican classroom who received your butterflies.
Search for
the photo and/or look in the Photo
Gallery. Print and send it to the President so he can see evidence
of the connection we're talking about.
Write
in English or Spanish
It's fine to write your letter in English. If you are able to write
in Spanish, wonderful!
