Down-Days
Record Tied (+0

November 11, 2006: Migration Day 38
Thunderstorms
moved through Boone County last night, leaving howling winds behind
to keep the team down another day.Today
ties the all-time record for consecutive down days. That was set
last year
when the team stood down for 8 days in Morgan County, Indiana. (That's
the next stopover after Boone).
Which
is the whooping crane chick and which is the sandhill crane?
What are the differences? These are captive cranes at ICF
in Wisconsin. Photo WCEP.

Today's
Journal Question: Many other members of the eastern
migratory flock of whooping cranes have also begun their
fall migrations, pushed out of their summer homes
in central
Wisconsin by the first blast of wintry air to hit the upper
Midwest. Radio signals from their leg bands help trackers
follow their progress. Why do you think these "experienced"
birds are being tracked?

Migration
Math: What is the total distance flown so far?
Figure the average daily distance this migration is covering.
(You also did this on Day

20. Explain why answers vary.)
