January 7, 2008: Migration Day 76

Photo Operation Migration

Progress! Fog was rolling in, spooking the birds as they lifted off in somewhat of a rodeo. Chris led with 15 birds on his wing. Richard and Brooke followed with one bird each. Under rough conditions the skilled pilots were able to fly the birds to Haralson County, Georgia and land them safely. Poor weather is headed their way, which is no surprise.

Today's Journal Question:
(a) How many days did it take to cross Georgia in the very first ultralight-led migration in 2001? TIP: Click and find the column labeled St/Pr for State/Province. Follow the columnn down to Georgia (GA). Note arrival date in Georgia. Then find arrival date in Florida (FL). How many days from arrival to departure?

(b-for-bonus)
Now compare with how many days it took to cross Georgia in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. How many days, on average, has it take to cross Georgia in the past 6 years?
