October 24, 2007: Migration Day 12

Photo Operation Migration

Brooke had the job of ‘test dummy’ this morning; that means he took off to check out conditions at the altitude for flying today. His verdict? Too much wind for the trikes and birds to handle. Everyone's fingers are crossed for a fly-day tomorrow!

In the Classroom

  • Today's Journal Question:
    (a) The team needs about 23 good flight days to cover the 1250-mile migration. If they fly tomorrow and every day after that, on what date would they arrive at their winter home in Florida?
    (b-for bonus)
Joe says the best plan would be to fly every other day (skipping a day between flights). Why do you think he says this? What might be some disadvantages of flying every day?
