November 6, 2007: Migration Day 25

Photo Operation Migration

It's blustery in LaSalle County today. Winds are blowing at +17mph out of the WNW — and blasting much stronger up top. This is the Day 3 at this Illinois stopover. Check out today's Migration History question!

In the Classroom

  • Today's Journal Question:
    (a)
It was 2 degrees below freezing when the team woke up today. What temperature is that in Celsius? Fahrenheit? Which is more of a problem for the planes and cranes: wind or cold temperatures? Why?
(b-for-bonus) In the photo above, from what direction is the wind blowing? Look for clues in (1) the sunrise and (2) the way the wind sock is pointing.
  • Migration History: Where was the migration on Day 25 in 2002? What do you notice about the date? See the Journaling Questions in the 2002 report to answer: How do the number of no-fly days on Day 25 in 2002 compare with the number of no-fly days on Day 25 in in 2007?
