On to Jackson County! (+60.9 Miles)
November 16, 2007: Migration Day 35

HOORAY! After being grounded for five days, all 17 birds winged their way safely to the next stop at Jackson County, Indiana's Muscatatuck NWR. Lead pilot Brooke made a couple of passes past the pen because the birds didn't quite have their act together, but soon all 17 were lined up with his wing. It was a beautiful sight! The last two birds lagged behind at first, but flapped like crazy to catch up. The three chase pilots held back as Brook and all 17 birds disappeared into the distance. GO CRANES!

In the Classroom

  • Today's Journal Question: What are some "firsts" that have happened during this migration? Review the reports and look for any firsts to list in your journal or on your migration comparison charts in the NOTES section. Add another fly day to the chart!
  • Migration History: On what date last year did the migration reach Jackson County? >> Write a statement that compares the 2006 migration progress on this date with the 2007 migration.
