Day 2 Grounded, Day 5 Searching (+0 Miles)
November 27, 2007: Migration Day 46

Photo Operation Migration

Again the weather in Washington County, Kentucky is not flyable. The team will search for #733, missing since she dropped out of the flight on Day 42. Bev will fly with top cover this morning as they fly over all the areas for which credible sightings have been reported. Using telemetry equipment, the rest of the team will continue the search on the ground. Thanks to Kentucky teacher Lori Trout for sending us this link to a news story (with video clip) from WHAS-11News.

The fifth graders from Dayton City School sent a message to cheer us all: "Our class is very excited about this year's trip. We can't wait for you to get here. We'll be visiting Hiawassee later in the year. We're praying you find #733. GO CRANES!"

If you spot a large, white-and-rust colored bird with a green leg band (either flying or on the ground), please call 1-800-675-2618 or 1-905-718-1034 immediately so Operation Migration can notify trackers to get to the location.

  • Today's Journal Question: The ultralight-led chicks have numbers instead of names. Do you think scientists should name animals they study? Write your opinion, then see this page to think more about names and labels in science.
