Another Dismal Day Down (+ 0 Miles )
November 6, 2008: Migration Day 21

Operation Migration's Heather Ray took this video of the birds in the pen during the evening roost check last night. What words describe the cranes' movements? The sounds you hear?

Yes, they're still waiting to make that flight to the first Illinois stopover. Yesterday's 11mph SE winds have grown to 15mph this morning on the ground, and double that strength up top. Rain showers are expected too, reports Liz. You know the rest of the story. . .but the good news is we have Heathers' video clip (27 seconds) of the birds in the pen last night. Do you see anyone you know?

  • Today's Journal Questions:
    (a) Click on the Data link below the map at right. When did they arrive in Green County? On how many days has the weather prevented them from leaving?
  • (b-for-bonus) What is significant about the number of days they've been "downed" in Green County? (See the Journal Question from Nov. 3.) You may wish to enter a statement about Green County in the NOTES section at the bottom of your Migration Comparison Chart.

Journey North is pleased to feature this educational adventure presented in cooperation with the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP).
