Week 2: No Gains (Total Gone: 19 Miles) Rain or south winds keep them grounded 9 days (and counting) at Stopover #2 in Marquette County, Wisconsin. They attempted a flight Oct. 16 to reach Stopver #3, but it ended back at Stopver #2 when the seven birds met up with trashy air soon after takeoff and turned back. The good news came when pilot Richard later confirmed that "Peanut," crane #4-14, was the bird second closest to the wingtip (photo below). The cohort's only male, Peanut is still regaining endurance after a leg injury in September. See updated bio pages to discover your favorite crane's performance on each fly-day of migration. Until our next weekly summary on October 27, find daily updates at Operation Migration's website. See live action on Operation Migration's crane cam and flight cam channels.
