How Far to Mexico from Galeana, Nuevo Leon?

About this photo: These monarchs were in Galeana, Nuevo Leon (24 N, -100W) last Thursday, October 18th. Try to understand a little of what the observer said:

These butterflies are the closest to the overwintering sites of any monarchs, according to reports we have received. But think: Who else might be seeing monarchs but not reporting them? This is one of the challenges of "citizen science." When studying monarchs, we must even overcome the English/Spanish language barrier. Measure the distance these monarchs must fly to reach the overwintering sites. When do you think the first monarchs will arrive there?
