Who Really Killed Cock Robin? Facts in Chapter 5: The Dump p. 95: An American toad trilled raucously and a male robin sang. Listen to the sound of an American toad and an American robin. p. 96: Our next doomed species, the fabulous peregrine falcon. Peregrine
falcons were, indeed, doomed at the time this book was written (1971).
Breeding
birds of this species were completely wiped out east of the Rocky Mountains.
But thanks to the efforts of a wide group of ornithologists and falconers
at
a lot
of universities and other institutions, peregrine falcons have been reintroduced
to many areas in their former range, including cities, and are doing
well
today.
