Robin Nest Video: Jackie's Journal

The Bird Dilemma

We were all gathered together in the classroom. All of us sitting there, uncomfortable.
I remember our class sat as far away from the 7th and 8th graders as we could get. In the corner of the classroom, a small TV showed a robin sitting comfortably on her eggs. We all watched her, not knowing what would happen or who would come out on top.

Our class, already being on unfriendly terms with Ted?s Group, didn?t know what to do. Ted?s Group was eager to finish their greenhouse. To them the mother robin was an obstacle getting in the way of their goals. Our class, however, didn?t think it fair to simply make the robin leave her unborn babies. This soon led to a heated discussion that would be grumbled about for the remainder of the year.

In the end, the robin was allowed to stay. Ted?s Group never finished the greenhouse, but to most people it was worth it. We all witnessed the amazing process of baby birds hatching, and not only that but we watched them fledge the nest as well. It was an unforgettable experience and those of us who fought for the robin?s right to stay were completely satisfied.
