May 20, 2001: We're SO Crowded! This is the last day the babies will be in the nest. Lucky, because they keep growing! Look closely at their eyes and nostrils and growing beaks.
Q. Why do baby robins have fuzzy down on their heads when their other feathers are starting to grow normally? The normal
head feathers ARE growing in, but it's critical for baby birds to keep
their heads warm. This "funky hairdo" is really just a little
extra insulation as their bodies are adapting to warm-bloodedness. See the next Robin Nest Photo Lesson.
