Bake
Sale in New Jersey
When the children from Assumption Academy in Emerson, NJ learned
about the devastating floods in Angangueo, they were quick to respond.
They brainstormed ways they could help the families and children
in the area. Since this is a Catholic school, the students immediately
held a prayer session and put the victims of the flood on their
prayer lists to be remembered each day.
The
students also decided to have a bake sale to raise money for the
victims. With the help of their parents, they planned and coordinated
their efforts so they had a wide variety of items to sell. They
publicized the sale and the reason for it throughout our school.
On
the day of the sale, the students and several adult volunteers sold
the items for $1.00 each. Very much to our surprise and joy, many
of the students not only purchased the baked goods but also made
an additional donation to the cause.
By
the end of the fundraiser, 21 third grade students in Louise Lucivero's
class raised $300 for their friends in Angangueo.
