Art and the Flower
Inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe was finely attuned to the sounds and sights of the natural world.Take inspiration from O'Keeffe's art and capture the beauty of a flower.

Materials:

• Sheets of 9x11 white drawing paper
• Sheets of 12x24 white drawing paper
• Pencils, colored chalk, crayons
• Assorted sizes of rectangular paper frames
• Fresh Red Emperor flowers or photos
• Other nature items: shells, plants, bones, feathers (Optional)

Instructions:

1. Gather library resources and examine O'Keeffe's paintings.
   
   
2. Brainstorm details you notice.
   -Do her paintings create an emotion?
   -What do her colors and shapes remind you of?
   -How does she use focus in her art?
   
   
3. Select a flower to draw.
   
   
4. Fill an 9x11 sheet of white paper with a big, detailed pencil drawing of your object. Then use a frame to choose a part of your art that contains interesting lines.
   
   
5. Place a paper frame over an area on your completed drawing that With a pencil, outline the frame.
   
   
6. Study the lines, shapes, and colors within the frame.
   
   
7. Reproduce the small window of details onto a large sheet of paper with pencils and crayons.
   
   
8. Write a description of your final artwork then share Twitter using #JNshare.
