Latitude/Longitude: Test Your Skills

1. Find Your Own Latitude and Longitude:

To find your own garden's latitude and longitude click on the "Sightings" button and submit a Practice Report. Wait 5 minutes, then click "Raw Data" under the Practice Report map to find your report. The latitude and longitude will be included in the Field Notes information. Write your Lat/Long below in the table.


2. Try This!
Let's look at some of the gardens on our Tulip Garden map. Study the latitude and longitude of each garden and compare it to your own latitude and longitude. Use this globe and today's tulip garden map (below) to help you answer the Journal Questions.

  2. Which garden is the farthest West, and the farthest East?
  3. Which garden is the closest to your garden?
  4. How would you use latitude and longitude to predict spring's arrival in these gardens?
  5. Which garden might bloom first? Last?
  6. Predict the town for each garden. When you're done check today's Tulip Planted map >> to see if you were correct. (No peeking until you predict!)
