A special page to the portfolio that "moves" to reflect a growing tulip plant.
This simple-to-make page for your portfolio is made with materials found in the classroom. Information about your tulip predictions and actual dates and measurements can be built built into the clever design.

Materials:

  • 2 sheets of 8.5 x 11" tag paper
  • green and red construction paper
  • scissors
  • white glue
  • markers, colored pencils or crayons

How to Make:

  1. Start by cutting a window into the middle of one piece of tagboard. This will be the stage for showing the paper tulip emerge, grow and bloom.
  2. Cut a slit starting just above and below the inner edges of the window. Stop just before the top and bottom of the page (view full size images above to see slits).
  3. Cut 2 strips (about 3/4" wide) from second piece of tagboard.
  4. Test the strips for fit: slide strips into the slits cut above and below window. Move them up and down in the slit.
  5. Plan and cut a green plant outline that fits into your window space. Glue it onto one of the strips. Feed the strip into the bottom slit to test.
  6. Plan and cut a red flower and glue to the top strip so it will meet up with the green plant when the strip is slid into the down position. Test and adjust.

You can create this special tulip graph and have it ready to go for recording plants' emerging and growing data.
